Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Stand Guardian™ come with a guarantee?
Yes. You must be satisfied with the quality and workmanship, or we will replace your unit. Remember, this is a cable lock that Jeff Murray helped design and has put his name behind. He insists that every treestand hunter be as enthusiastic as he is about this breakthrough product. (See guarantee under "Information.")

Is there a “right” or “wrong” way to use the Stand Guardian™?
Yes. The best way is to wrap the cable around one side of your treestand, then around the tree, then around the other side of your treestand; this prevents thieves from being able to manipulate the lock to get a better crack at it (more below). Finally, when you fasten the lock, make sure it’s tipped downward so moisture can’t collect inside. Ideally, the lock should end up right beneath the seat and about 8 or 10 inches from the tree.  In this position, the lock becomes virtually hammer-proof, because it "gives" with each blow. Please do not underestimate this last step.

Why is this system patent-pending?
First, the patent is “pending” because it is still in the application stages; the process used to take about 6 months and now takes several years. Second, the proprietary process – how the cable is constructed and works with the lock mechanism – make it very special.

Is there anything out there comparable to the Stand Guardian™?
Stand Gurdian vs. the other guys. Not really. Some treestand manufacturers actually sell security cables, but they’re usually about 3/8-inch in diameter – just big enough to give the illusion of protection but not the beef you need to resist hardware store bolt cutters and hacksaws.

How can I be sure someone won’t pick the lock of my Stand Guardian™?
Can't pick it! First, its keys are computer-coded, meaning the odds of another Stand Guardian™ owner also matching your unit are very low. In fact, the odds are one-in-937,528. Second, the ballistic-grade internal lock is a two-stage lock, meaning it’s more resistant to hammers than a one-stage design. We felt that treestand thieves would be more likely to use a hammer to unseat the lock than any other instrument, so that’s why we decided on a two-stage, and not a three-stage, connection.

Why does the Stand Guardian™ come with 3 keys?
Because you’re probably going to lose one in the woods! Then you’ll still have a back up.
